Recently, I had the pleasure of witnessing a truly adorable and enchanting lilac floral themed cake smash and splash photoshoot, filled with laughter, joy, and a whole lot of cake! Oh and mess!
As the little one, dressed in an adorable cream romper with lilac flowers had her sibling portraits with her big sister, the room was filled with excitement and anticipation on how she would react to a giant cake smash and splash.  Did that headline grab your attention?Other than advice from my own experience, all I can personally say is what works for you, may not work for others. As we are all aware, everyone, even babies... are different and no two are the same, well, unless you are a twin? SO HOW DO I GET A BABY TO SLEEP DURING A NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION? 99% of the time, I have a baby into a nice deep sleep within 10-20 minutes after their feed and wind and I believe the trick to this is mainly by staying relaxed with the baby and helping them fall into that nice deep sleep. Tricks I use ALL the time is white noise. YES! White noise, now I know a lot of my clients use this already, but I do get the odd client wow'ed by it and insist " We are using that tonight". I have my white noise playing on my Alexa in the studio from babies arrival, until they have left. HEAT! Not direct heat, but because your baby is going to stripped down to nothing, to keep them happy it's best to have a nice warm studio for them, however it does make us fully clothed adults feel a little stuffy sometimes. SWADDLES! I swaddle as a last resort these days, as said above, no two babies are the same and not all sink into that deep sleep well enough for photographs, so sometimes I swaddles and get the baby nice and content that way. (See photo above!) Still makes for great portraits tho! UPON ARRIVAL, IT WILL GO A BIT LIKE THIS... -WHITE NOISE ON!! - Strip baby down to nappy - Feed, feed, feed baby. A newborn trainer taught me this trick and my gosh, it has worked a trick since! Feed them, so they are milky drunk. The fuller and more content they are, the better the session will go. - After baby has been fed, I will then take them from you and sit them up right ready for their first photography, usually at this stage, the heater is on full and sometimes a dummy will be given if needed, but not always. - Sometimes, a little stroke on the forhead and a little rock on my chair. THEN SLEEP! How I check that the baby is in a good sleep is by picking up their arm, if they pull it back and are tense, baby is not ready for portraits, however, if the arm is loose and floppy, your baby is in a deep enough sleep to continue. Those little tricks work wonders for photography newborn sessions.    Naomi is turning one! Oh Naomi! What a fun little girl you are! Turning one this month, but visited last month for her 1st birthday cake smash and splash photoshoot. Princess style! She was a princess that's for sure and I love her gallery so much!  Mum brought her in this gorgeous big pink dress for some clean portraits! Naomi mum brought her in this gorgeous big pink princess dress for a few photographs before things for a bit messy. Safe to say, she looked very much like a princess. She did however, have another outfit for her cake smash.  Now for the messy stuff!Naomi was so tired, bless her. She did make me and her mummy work for some smiles, but when we got them they melted us. Such a sweet little one.  Naomi enjoyed playing with her cake and the splash!After a quick snooze, after Naomi nodded off sat up right, with her hands in her birthday cake... she woke and playing in the splash tub! The past before the cake smash when everyone stays nice and clean. Lucca <3 I first met Lucca last year, he had a newborn session with me, but due to lockdown it was postponed till April therefore he was a few months old for the session. A couple of weeks ago, he celebrated his first birthday and a couple of days before he had pre celebrations in my photography studio, with a cake smash and splash photography session. He certainly kept his Daddy on his toes during the shoot. I love this gallery so much.  The seat that became a push along toy during the session. Lucca had us all laughing. I like the classic style pics, black and white type thing and not overly styled so they are timeless " - client. Me... Super excited, totally looking forward to this little newborn session! It's not often I get asked to present all the images in black and white ONLY but my gosh, these just work so lovely in black and white... I'm in love with them all and it seems a lot of my followers on Facebook agree!! The most simple, but precious, timeless, gorgeous, lovely images ever. I can't wait to show my client the entire gallery!      Well Christmas holidays was over in a flash, but I am glad to be back working and doing what I love. The first gallery of 2022 was completed last week and sent over to my client, from a lovely little newborn session. This family have visited me numerous of times before so it was a pleasure to be able to capture their newest addition to the family.  This gallery is just really fresh and clean looking, I can certainly see myself creating some gorgeous wall art for my studio with some of the images from this newborn photography session. Arlo's Cake Smash and Splash - Fun themed birthday portrait photography - Studio based in Hull6/24/2021  Is they a better way to celebrate a 1st birthday? A whole giant gorgeous, yummy cake to eat and play with! For most babies, it's their first experience of tasting something sweet and capturing their expressions is a fab way of marking that 1st birthday milestone. My cake smash sessions can be almost any theme of your choice, I have lots of themes to choose from however I am always open to suggestions should you have an idea in mind about what theme you'd like.       What can I say, little baby Amrik loved his cake smash and splash photography session, despite being warned he maybe a little shy, he was amazing! He got properly stuck into the photoshoot with his little cheekiness and cuteness and it just shows from the images below.
