How Old Was Your Baby When They First Slept Through the Night? One of the most common questions new parents ask is: "When will my baby finally sleep through the night?" If you're currently surviving on coffee, cold cups of tea, and broken sleep, I promise you're not alone! Every baby is different, and what works for one family might not work for another. For some parents, "sleeping through" means a full 12 hours. For others, it simply means getting a solid stretch of uninterrupted sleep before the next feed. Most experts consider sleeping through the night to be around 6-8 hours without waking. As a mum myself, I know just how exciting that first full night's sleep feels but also how surreal it feels too. My first son surprised us by sleeping from around 9pm until 5am from just 8 weeks old. After a feed, he'd happily drift back off until around 8am. I remember waking up in a panic the first few times, convinced something must be wrong because he'd slept so long! My youngest wasn't too far behind. He started sleeping through at around 11 weeks old and followed a very similar pattern. While I know we were incredibly lucky, it also taught me that every baby really is their own little person with their own timeline. As a newborn photographer, I've met hundreds of families over the years, and I've heard every sleep story imaginable. Some babies sleep through very early, while others take many months before they're ready. Neither is right or wrong. and what works for some, wont work for others. The truth is, baby sleep isn't a competition. If your little one is still waking frequently during the night, it doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. Their tiny bodies are growing at an incredible rate, and many babies genuinely need those night time feeds and cuddles. So now I'm curious... How old was your baby when they first slept through the night?
After all, parenthood may come with sleepless nights, but it also comes with some of the most precious memories we'll ever make.. Some love stories are written in grand gestures. Others are built quietly over years of friendship, laughter and standing side by side through life's toughest moments. Sophie and Harry's story is both. After meeting online, they have spent the last 13 years building a life together. Eight years ago, Harry planned the most thoughtful proposal, creating a treasure map of clues that led Sophie to their love lock outside The Deep in Hull, where Harry asked Sophie to marry him. It's a story that perfectly captures who they are as a couple. Fun, playful and full of love.. I certainly got this feeling whilst capturing their wedding day. Their wedding day at The Treasure House in Beverley was a celebration of everything that makes their relationship so special. Arriving in a stunning vintage white imperial viscount (Aston Wedding Car To You), Sophie looked absolutely incredible in an elegant off-the-shoulder gown with delicate lace sleeves. Harry, dressed in a light neutral jacket and sage green bow tie, couldn't stop smiling. From the moment they saw each other, it was obvious that these two are more than husband and wife. They are best friends, soul mates. The Treasure House provided a beautiful backdrop for their day. Surrounded by greenery and peaceful gardens, the newlyweds spent time with their children, sharing quiet moments as a family before breaking into laughter and playful portraits that felt so naturally "them". Their little boy was hilarious and helped me capture some very memorable, funny moments. One of my favourite moments from the day was watching Harry effortlessly scoop Sophie up into his arms while she laughed uncontrollably, I'm not sure what he was whispering in her ear though when I gave him a little que to mention something a little naughty to her. There was no pressure to be serious or pose perfectly. They simply enjoyed being together, and that's exactly what I love to capture. The real smiles, the belly laughs and the little glances that say more than words ever could. Their story hasn't always been easy. Sophie and Harry have experienced unimaginable heartbreak after losing their precious son, Luca, who was stillborn at 37 weeks. Yet through grief, joy, parenthood and all the ups and downs life has thrown their way, they have remained each other's greatest support. There is a quiet strength in their relationship that you can feel in every photograph. Their wedding wasn't just about saying "I do". It was about celebrating everything they've overcome together and everything still to come. It was about family, resilience, friendship and choosing each other every single day. Sophie and Harry, thank you for trusting me to capture this chapter of your story. It was an absolute privilege to witness your love, your laughter and the beautiful family you've created together. I wish you a lifetime of adventures, endless banter and many more weekends spent making memories with your little ones.
